Bjørn Sagstad is an experienced conductor within the classical orchestra repertoire. He has a special interest in Nordic composers and like to present the Nordic sound to an international audience. He is also working with many contemporary composers and has premiered several exciting works.

Contemporary music

Performing contemporary music is always exciting and it can be a very different experience for the conductor since it often includes exciting dialogue with the composer. In this way the conductor as the interpreter can discuss the music and get a deeper sense of what the composer had in mind when he wrote the piece. The process can be very rewarding and give an extra dimension to the performance.

Commissoned work/Premieres

To perform a piece for the very first time is something every conductor dream of. Bjørn Sagstad has had the honour of premiering several pieces and also to record many of them. The process when composer, conductor and orchestra work and perform a piece for the first time is a special experience with a lot of excitement, nerves and immense joy.
